Vagni returns home to Italy

Italian International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) volunteer worker Eugenio Vagni has flown to Italy this morning, three days after he was released by his Abu Sayyaf captors in Sulu province.

In a TV interview, Vagni said he can’t wait to be with his relatives in Italy.

He added that despite the six-month ordeal he underwent while in captivity – which included sleepless nights due to continuous gunfire – he would still have an easy time recovering and retruning to a normal life.

Vagni was released to authorities at dawn last Sunday. He was the last of three ICRC hostages to be freed. - By Dino Maragay (Philstar News Service, www.philstar.com)
